One Day
War...
My roots are Ukrainian and the war in Ukraine has dominated my thoughts for over four years. Now there are new wars breaking out in other places around the globe. In this fabric collage I wanted to express some of the emotional darkness of war and also my hope that ""One Day"" we will find peace.
I'm a mixed media artist who has worked with handmade papers, fabrics, metals and acrylic paints on canvas for almost 20 years. In this piece my experimental challenge was to create a work without a canvas substrate using only recycled fabrics. In order to add a third dimension to the piece and add the sensation of flight to peace and freedom, I used copper wire to form some of the fabric pieces into bird-like shapes. I also formed the same copper wire into the shape of barbwire as an expression of pain and confinement.
